Winter can leave skin feeling dull, dehydrated and lacking its usual glow. Discover why your skin’s needs can change in spring and the simple adjustments that can help restore radiance.

Does Your Skincare Routine Need a Spring Reset?

Winter skin and spring skin have different needs.

After months of cooler weather, indoor heating and dry air, it’s not unusual to arrive in spring feeling as though your skin has lost some of its usual freshness and glow.

Skin can feel drier, look a little dull or lacklustre, and the build-up of dead skin cells can leave the complexion looking less smooth and radiant.

Then, just as your skin is recovering from winter, the season changes.

Longer days, warmer temperatures and increasing UV exposure bring a new set of considerations for your skin. That makes spring a wonderful time to take a fresh look at your skincare routine and ask a simple question:

Is what worked for my skin in winter still what it needs now?

Why can skin look dull after winter?

During the cooler months, a combination of dry air, changes in hydration and slower cell turnover can contribute to a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface.

The result can be skin that looks dull, feels rougher or simply doesn’t have the fresh, healthy-looking radiance you would like.

Spring is an opportunity to gently address that build-up and restore balance, rather than suddenly changing everything in your routine.

At Skin Review, we like to think of the seasonal transition in three simple steps:

Exfoliate • Brighten • Hydrate

Exfoliate
Thoughtful exfoliation helps remove the build-up of dead surface cells and reveal fresher-looking skin beneath. The important word here is thoughtful. More exfoliation isn’t necessarily better, and the right approach should always take your individual skin condition into account.

Brighten
If winter has left your complexion looking dull or uneven, spring is an ideal time to introduce targeted brightening ingredients and professional treatments suited to your skin.

It’s also the time of year when pigmentation deserves a little more attention.

As warmth and UV levels increase, melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, become more active. This can contribute to existing dark spots and uneven pigmentation becoming more noticeable.

Hydrate
Even as the weather warms, hydration remains important. Supporting your skin’s moisture levels and barrier helps keep it feeling comfortable, supple and healthy.

The goal isn’t necessarily more skincare. It’s choosing what your skin actually needs.

Don’t forget what changes above the skin, too

One of the biggest seasonal changes is something we can’t ignore: UV exposure.

If you’re working on improving radiance, uneven tone or pigmentation, protecting your skin is just as important as treating it.

Daily broad-spectrum sun protection should therefore remain an important part of your morning routine as we move into spring and towards summer.

Think of it as protecting the work you’re doing with your homecare and professional treatments, rather than something separate from your skincare routine.

Does your routine need changing?

Not necessarily.

A spring reset doesn’t mean clearing out the bathroom cabinet and starting again.

Sometimes it may simply mean adjusting your exfoliation, introducing a targeted brightening product, changing the level of hydration you’re using or making sure your daily sun protection is appropriate.

And because no two skins are exactly alike, the best place to start is by understanding your skin, rather than following the latest skincare trend.

At Skin Review, professional skin advice allows us to look at your current skin condition, what you’re using at home and what you’d like to improve, then recommend an approach that makes sense for you.

A fresh season is a chance to reassess, not start over.

Small, considered changes now can help support brighter, fresher and more comfortable-looking skin throughout the warmer months ahead.
